A short biographical sketch of Antigoni Panayi nased on her life
narration follows.
Antigoni Panayi was born in 1913 in a big family in the village
of Nata, where she lived until 1931, when she got married to Onoufrios
Panayi from Nikoklia. It is worth mentioning that Onoufrios Panayi
was the president of Nikoklia community council from 1928 until
1958, when he and many other presidents resigned, reacting against
English domination. In 1932 Antigoni took over the Community Post
Office. She had to leave the Post office in August 2006 due to
health reasons.
She was a pioneer for her time, since she managed to combine work
and taking care of a big family. Times were not easy. Her six children,
three daughters and three sons were brought up with ethical principles.
Antigoni managed to overpass all difficulties and helped four f
her six children to study. One of her sons was a National Guard
brigadier and whilst another was a Policeman.
Antigoni Panayi is 93 years old. She keeps her own traditional
coffee-shop in Nikoklia and sews. Her warm heart and hospitality
are surprising.
